There is a huge amount of "cope" among arts people who claim they can spot AI prose (for example) and that it's sub-standard, but then pay $2m for a crime novel that later turns out to be AI generated. I'm tempted to ask if it really matters if a book is AI generated so long as you enjoy it?

A lot of human exceptionalism going around tbh. The only distinguishing feature in the future of AI in the creative space is going to be if you can tell. Can AI make art? No. Art is what humans do when we deal with the human condition. Is most entertainment art? Also no.

Same cognitive dissonance people go through when they try the "Marvel films are cinema!" thing and Scorsese is like "no, this is a different genre of thing, it's entertainment, that's ok, but not cinema". The current AI rubric seems to be "if its something I care about it couldn't possible be AI!"

And personally, I find this line of thinking slightly offensive to me because I perceive a lot of software as art by that same definition (the works of an artist wrestling with wanting to change the world to deal with something they're feeling). But no, fuck us, specifically, etc etc.

Though I suppose I am damned to be both an arts person and a software person. I think it's simple: - Does it contain your intent - Does it execute correctly - Did it do what it was trying to do Same for a program or a painting.
