Blanche v. Lau is devastating for green card holders. It means that if they leave the U.S. then return, a border officer can claim they committed a crime at some point, revoke their lawful status, and confiscate their green card without meaningful evidence of wrongdoing. It's really, really bad.

Combined with the trump policy requiring green card holders to leave the country in order to renew their legal status, and it creates a system for mass removal of legal immigrants.

It's unhinged! It literally says that a border agent can just decide with no evidence that a LTR is a criminal! Absolutely unjustifiable.

It's untenable for green card holders --as it's meant to be. He may have to make a decision re where he chooses to live. The US is no longer safe.

This feels insane. Of course, our swiss cheese immigration law combined with our sleep paralysis demon supreme court will continue to exploit any gray areas to be able to immiserate as many brown people as possible until we do something about it.

Notwithstanding it appears the SC majority is anti-immigrant, not just anti-undocumented (since green card holders aren’t “illegals”) how do the 6 justices justify revoking a person’s lawful status based on a “claim” that lacks evidence of wrongdoing? People have no right to prove their innocence?

Supposedly this decision puts the matter in removal proceedings and the Greek card holder still can go before an immigration judge. But we all know those hearings are a sham. bsky.app/profile/reic...

Importantly, this decision does NOT mean that green card holders can simply be ordered deported at the border by officials; that decision will remain up to immigration judges in removal proceedings.

Based on a case where it seems like there was legitimate evidence of a felony! They went out of their way to lower a potentially arguable new standard down to an insane one
