Reading a little about mandatory elections. Lead me to Australia. Australia does Saturdays. See "democracy sausages". cardinalnews.org/2025/05/07/a...

cardinalnews.orgAustralians turn their election days into festivals that raise money for community projects. Why can’t we do the same?Down Under, it’s tradition for community groups to sell “democracy sausage” on election day as fundraisers.

Another poor voter turnout. Should voting be mandatory? I have always said NO, but am having second thoughts. If you don't want to participate you can spoil your ballot.

Sure we have “democracy sausages”, but we also have a billionaire-funded orange clown threatening our democracy. If you don’t criminalize oligarchy-level corruption, enshitification is your only destination.

As an Aussie, I can recommend mandatory voting 👌 It's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than optional voting. One big benefit is it encourages plotical parties to be less extreme in their policies as they don't need to appeal to the nuts on the fringes who are most likely to vote.
