Hey, that's a nice [THING YOU DO FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE], be a real shame if somebody were to [CONVINCE YOU TO MONETIZE IT, TRANSFORMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP INTO AN OBLIGATION AND ROBBING YOU OF JOY]

I feel like one of the biggest themes in my life, recently, is realizing that maybe I shouldn't have turned drawing into an occupation and now trying to get back to just drawing for pleasure without the specter of "but how will I make money for this" lurking behind me at all times.

I think there ARE healthy ways to separate it but they aren't always easy or obvious. Like you say, the hardest part is shaking the constant "THIS NEEDS TO BE COMMERCIALLY VIABLE!" voice out of your brain

Totally. If someone is able to make art they enjoy AND make a living doing so, that's awesome! But the trick is not prioritizing "soul-sucking but profitable" over "soul-enriching but unmarketable." And that's what I realize I'm bad at and need to work on.
