whats the general perception of the speedrun community in 2025? on the way up? on the way down? what games/creators/events are we excited about?

Hmmmm I think there’s been a burst of new people in the scene I have been keeping and eye on; pretty much anyone from the fatales GDQ crew have been crushing it. Beyond that for performers the newer people are doing great things and look like they desire to get better.

Overall the speedrun space has been a net positive in all of the communities I am in; very different than what they were when I first joined, but I’ve always been someone who is better focusing/interacting with individuals than groups. Still happy to take part and contribute with each community

I think it’s going up, speed runners are so quick to adopt any new game that comes out, it’s hard to be a fan of a game and not be exposed to speedrunning, plus it’s cool!

SMB1 has been pretty hype to watch, with people like Niftski & Averge pushing hard for 4:54.3xx. The SM64 TAS scene has been making more progress than I've seen in a while, with a bunch of timesaves found, 120-star making progress, and a significant push towards 70-star 0xA
