Inspired by the debate of “editing is evil and ruins photography” I present to you: The raw The edit

I'll debate it. Editing is embellishment. It is artificial improvement. It is algorithm-aided altering of the more-true captured image. If you want or are okay with that, fine. But some people want truth in their photos. And the only evidence to support "but my eyes saw THAT is anecdotal."

If humans were cameras, I'd agree. But cameras can't see like we do. This is a picture of a bird that doesn't exist, the Moire-Feathered Scrub Jay. There's a button in Photoshop to make those ovals disappear, so I click it and bring back some Truth to the image.

I think it all depends what it is you’re capturing and creating . I love natural light and sometimes editing ruins the capture but other times editing brings out so much and playing with editing is part of creating great images . No rules I reckon .

Neither film nor digital sensors can represent the physical light accurately, each is a representation. Neither represents the eyes dynamic range, nor the minds-eye’s perception, nor the visual/emotional experience. Editing is important for both representation, and artistry.

Both are sick. The raw shows the simple beauty of sunlight piercing the forest; the edit expresses how the scene must’ve felt. I say all this as an utter novice, though.
