For 30 years, the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) has shown the value of innovative policy to local communities, notably playing a crucial role in saving the much-loved Wellington Monument back in 2018. Here's how...

Since 1996, a portion of landfill tax is diverted directly into community and environmental projects and the LCF has reshaped the UK’s local infrastructure ever since.

And we are proud to have played our part in this milestone. Over the last three decades, we have successfully fundraised over £9m from the LCF, supporting over 270 projects, helping shape community spaces, heritage sites, and biodiversity initiatives.

One of the most notable projects supported Wellington Monument, which had an uncertain future back in 2018.

But thanks to the LCF and a public fundraising campaign, we were able to make critical structural repairs and enable the site to open in 2020 for the public, preserving this special place for many years to come.
