Games where you play as a girl with no option to play as a boy are, on average, more skill intensive than games where you play as a boy or girl, or games where you play as a boy with no option to play as a girl. To play as a girl is to accept that the world is unfair. To be a girl is to accept this.

Games for boys are more likely to want you to feel powerful and games for girls are more likely to want you to be precise, evasive, clever, or resilient. Comparing genres that are more likely to star boys, you get a huge variety, and genres more likely to star girls you get bullet hell shooters.

It's also a little funny when you compare games in the same *series* that have a game where you have a male protagonist and a game with a female protagonist. The girl one is almost always more difficult. Conversely, when given a choice in the same game, girl route is usually easier.

Please acknowledge my weasel words because this is absolutely not ALWAYS true, such as the recentish Switch Zelda game is actually pretty easy. Compare the two Hades, the two Hollow Knights, The Last of Us, Dishonored. It certainly helps these are all sequels, but it's still a funny pattern.
