The doesn't like using a shutdown for extortion. Being open to a temporary solution while a deal is hammered out. If the Republicans refuse to consider a temporary stand down, then they will seem like extortionists. Make it clear you are realistic and willing to deal.

I’m not one that has ever advocated for a government shutdown but if there ever is a time to hold the line, it’s now. Trump will blame dems either way. So, shut it down.
