France has blocked an EU initiative to let Ukraine use a European loan to purchase British made Storm Shadow missiles, according to The Telegraph. Paris says the money should be spent within the EU, while several other member states support looser rules. #Ukraine

Yes there are, the storm shadow / SCALP is a joint UK and French production. The UK is already producing at full capacity and expanding, with their own funds. There is no reason for EU funds to come bankroll the UK on this while they already produce at max capacity. EU funds go to france

Lenin once said that “The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.” Update: "The Europeans will squabble over the crumbs of who gets which weapons order, until we hang them one by one."

The UK is already produces storm shadows at full capacity and is expanding, with their own funds. There is no reason for EU funds to come bankroll the UK on this while they already produce at max capacity themselves.

Pathetic decision by France. Typical. Highlights how hopeless Europe is in gearing up to help Ukraine, which is doing everything to stop Russia invading the rest of Europe whereas with Europe it's all talk and very little action. And even that little action takes forever to happen.

Let’s not forget what France is like, during the Falklands war France was selling Exocet missiles to Argentina so they don’t give a crap about the UK, as long as they’re going to get something out of it, should have let the Nazis keep them

Let's not forget what lying little englanders are like. France did not sell any Exocet to the argies during the conflict. France provided Mirage III for dissimilar combat training to the FAA during the conflict so Shar pilots had a good idea of the tactics to use against the Argie Mirage III.

The German Taurus is the best. French/UK produce the Scalp/Storm Shadow, which doesn't have the range Ukraine really needs, but it would help a lot. They are developing a better family of cruise missiles together, but these are a long way off (years).

France needs to accept that the UK makes more weapons than France does, BAe is one of the worlds top 10 weapons manufacturers. The UK has been one of the first to step up and defend European nations since Napoleon, so stop putting ideology before pragmatism.

That's simply wrong I'm sorry to tell you. Besides, the UK is already producing storm shadows at full capacity and expanding, with their own funds. There is no reason for EU funds to come bankroll the UK on this while they already produce at max capacity themselves.

So what about all the other things the UK builds, Jet engines, RF comms, EW systems, Brimstone, NLAW It is silly to say a single country shouldn't be included when it is already part of Airbus and on the doorstep Strip out the UK parts of Rafale, Exocets etc and they just don't work

Nobody excluded the UK. There is a tiered priority for the use of the eu funds eermarked for ukraine. Ukrainian industry, then EU industry, then UK industry, then the world. These are EU funds. The UK was offered to contribute proportionally to have equal access (like EU states) but you refused.

Sipri also shows the UK globally manufactures 33bn and France 22bn ... the argument still stands as the UK builds lots of things in the US for the US...

This is a story from the Telegraph, not the highest standard for journalism. If the UK have them to spare, I'm sure they would just give them to Ukraine. Moreover Storm Shadows are a joint French/UK production, so no reason for France not to invest in their production either... I doubt it's accurate

Europe keeps shooting itself in the foot....one step forward, 5 or 6 steps backwards and they wonder why Ukraine cannot get ahead...it is just shameful...President Macron--your great when you lead but total shite the rest of the time!!

The UK is already producing at full capacity and expanding, with their own funds. There is no reason for EU funds to come bankroll the UK on this while they already produce at max capacity themselves.

The Telegraph supported Loony Liz Truss 🥬 for Tory leadership, lied about Covid lockdowns, and denies climate change. And brexit, of course The only thing that surprises me about the Telegraph is that it's not printed in Cyrillic GBNews picked it up from Telegraph, but that's backed by putin too

France produces Scalp too, which is they same, so can they produce the numbers, then do it. Otherwise don't block Ukraine for well needed gear. Its not like UK is an enemy or something.

I actually looked it up last night. It's a joint France-UK project, the company that makes them is European consortiums all the way down, it is based on another French cruise missile, components are from France, the UK and Italy, and final assembly is done in the UK.

yet There whole political system looks awfully like the US. Brexit was a result of Cambridge Analytica with deep roots with Trump and the Heritage Foundation ( project 2025 ) which has roots with Kremlin propaganda network. "pings" between a server at Trump Tower and Russia's Alfa Bank.

I do not understand France’s position on this issue; it seems to me that this is not the first time. That France is pushing for more European-made weapons as part of aid to Ukraine is one thing, but it should not be done at the expense of the urgency of the moment. We must not confuse timelines
