The fact that they are holding discussions separately from EU/NATO is perhaps not the right step.

The peace is going to be fake (short term) from Ru side. My guess is Ru just wants to have a brief pause to consolidate grip of domestic power, get rid of Zelensky and then Ru starts the war again. If EU doesn't make a strong move during this time (doubt it), it could be a checkmate.
