The article describes her as an atmospheric and earth sciences student. I see there is an atmospheric and climate sciences dept, and a earth and space sciences dept. Was she a dual major?

Earth and space sciences is going to be geophysics and astrophysics with very likely a strong focus on planetary science and exoplanet research. Atmospheric and earth sciences is terrestrial only and will encompass meteorology, environmental science, and marine sciences.

The departments don't map 1:1 with which majors exist but earth and space science is almost always exoplanet research, heliophysics, and solar system planetary science. It'll be a dept full of physics, astrophysics, geophysics, and geology majors
