Beyoncé won the Grammy for best country album, becoming the first Black artist to achieve the feat. “I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” she said, “and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about.” nyti.ms/3PZvgOW

I do not care for labeling Beyoncé - of course she is black, however why is that the story. How about focusing on crossing genres? That said, I listen to, I guess “new country” radio and have never heard her music there, and did she attend the CMAs? Was she nominated? Art is very subjective

Is Beyonces album really “country”? I’m for talent exploring any and all genres provided the result is genuine & skillfully performed. Her album strikes many as disingenuous cultural appropriation which comes through in the outcome. Anyway congratulations Beyoncé.
