Last Thursday, the far-right student organization KVHV organized a public lecture by Nathan Cofnas. The lecture was an absolute train wreck. It will take a while to analyze everything, but here are some first impressions. /1
He is engaging in open and explicit entryism ( olivia.science/entryism ) > “His goal is not to engage in scholarship[,] but to roll out a far-right agenda. That is stated in black and white in his newsletters. To achieve this, [unis] must be taken over by ‘racial realists.’ 11/
Cofnas tell us how to do white supremacist entryism > In “How to Take Back Academia,” I proposed a three-part plan: (1) Promote knowledge of the cause of race differences (2) Change the population of decision makers on campus (3) Leverage political power compare to bsky.app/profile/oliv... 12/
> Keep your eyes wide open. I have a couple ideas on what you could look out for: 1️⃣ Supporting / liking TESCREALism, Eliezer Yudkowsky, etc. 2️⃣ Claiming "AI helps disabled people" and derivative rhetoric. 3️⃣ Arguing that AI is dangerous unless it's developed in the US, or China. 4/n
> Cofnas’s plan is not to engage in rational dialogue with those who hold different views, but rather to drive them out of universities. Among other things, by curtailing their civil rights. reminder since this is getting longer, whole text here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t47r5... 14/
Remember, he was never silent about the views he holds, and this means they were known before and during his hiring process. 15/
And just to really hammer home the point that everyone has to have known very clearly what he thinks about Black people, the quote from him here in a mainstream media piece: “Zwarte mensen zijn minder slim” — literally means: “Black people are less intelligent” www.hln.be/gent/zwarte-... 4/n
> Cofnas’s appointment clearly has a negative impact on the department, the students, and the university as a whole. The fact that the university [...] cannot protect us from this negative impact within the current regulatory framework is a major [...] problem for Ghent University. 23/
