If you assert bodies are machines, there's nothing further to say. Machines have certain properties (such as having been engineered) that to people who disagree with you and with (especially naive or strong) mechanical materialism it is obvious that bodies do not have.

The assertion that only what is mechanical materialism (ideas like "bodies are machines") is science is dying or slowly and being replaced by other ways of seeing, understanding, and modelling biological organisms — both within the relevant sciences, e.g.

This is why AGI isnt happening. Sense perception, movement, and memory are chemistries coupled to each other and all coupled to direct matter exchange with the environment, like a centrifugal governor. Nothing is representation, interpretation, “info processing”, or math.

my most relevant work on this is this (where we quote @abeba.blacksky.app up top as I mentioned) as it tackles the repercussion of what can follow from assuming or asserting bodies are machines (= engineered objects)

I've felt for a while that a mainstream method, reverse engineering, in cognitive science & AI is incompatible w computationalism‼️ So I wrote "Modern Alchemy: Neurocognitive Reverse Engineering" w the wonderful Natalia S. & @irisvanrooij.bsky.social to elaborate: philsci-archive.pitt.edu/25289/ 1/n

@irisvanrooij.bsky.social most relevant work is: doi.org/10.1007/s421... which shows that even if we grant mechanical materialism's modern form, i.e. that bodies are computational, it leads to very serious problems with the claims that we can know their computations
