Based on WSJ sources, Trump administration officials are reportedly floating former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán for UN secretary-general, potentially backed by the US, Russia and China.

When I spoke to a high level official at UN back in spring about the candidates, the official told me to wait until the end of the year for a “black horse” to show up and not get too much into analyzing those considered. I don’t know if this is related to this or not, but that’s what I can tell you.

That's what they're trying to prevent with this rescue mission by awarding him diplomatic immunity from that post. China is not involved in this nonsense. Putin and Trump are trying to force them into the picture via fait accompli.

They’ll never get Orban past the vetoes of France and the UK, but some former UN diplomats suspect choosing someone they can’t possibly get accepted to block the entire process as they refuse other candidates may be precisely the point.
