7 years ago today, I packed up my stuff, said goodbye to my friends, and got on a plane and never returned to the place I had always called home— London. I had spent my entire 20s transitioning into a tech bro with a warped vision of success and happiness…

I didn’t care how I got there. I worked to the point my physical health was in the shitter. And my mental health was even worse. I didn’t care who I hurt or what I said. I only thought about myself. I didn’t like the person who I was, and a change was needed.

I got to the airport with 1 suitcase and the clothes on my back. Everything else I had given away or sold. The next day I was in Vietnam. I was on my own and out of my depth. But I threw myself into the deep end and went to meet people, locals and other expats.

I spent a few weeks in Vietnam and decided it was time to move on and see what the rest of the world had to offer. So I kept on going. I lived in 30+ countries, I met so many good people, and most importantly, I met my wife, Michelle…

I learned so much, but in the process, I learned the importance of being honest, a decent person, and the importance of self-care and mental health. I still love tech and have similar ambitions of being wealthy, as wealth equals freedom…

But the journey is just as important now. The goal and who I do it with are equally as important. And most of all, I know the importance of life outside of work. Being a husband and a father, having fun, and living a healthy, happy life.
