Our society has associated surveillance with security (CCTV) and with love (bluetooth tags) for so long that tech companies are betting (perhaps correctly?) that people prefer being surveilled to being ignored...

None of this tech has made us safer but you cannot argue that with scared parents, scared targets or discrimination, scared caregivers, scared spouses etc. You just can’t.

It is a totalitarian nightmare but because end users FEEL in control of it they desire it or at least accept it. This tech might be slightly more benign if not for the cloud elements to it, but there is the rub.
