Blizz did actually mention that parallel in-game. Sort of. There is a tablet on the Coiled Isle that was written prior to the summoning of Ula'tek, where Sethraliss is mentioned as a snake who fought back against the aqir. Orwyena even mentions her as 'a great serpent who fought the aqir before'
