I hear the winds of the Harper era blowing in… all the “abolish the Indian Act” talk… feds would love nothing more than to drop its fiduciary and treaty obligations. Saw this coming with Carney’s conservative extractive agenda. #cdnpoli #indianact #treaties

This needs to be addressed directly, it is confusing people. bsky.app/profile/saro...

Wab Kinew calls on Ottawa to abolish Indian Act: "I'm not sure if that lines up with your vision of Canada, that we still have a race-based form of identification in this country. It's long overdue that we have a relationship with Indigenous peoples that reflects who we are as Canadians today."

Please watch the press conference post meeting. Carney said this was brought up by multiple nations in the meeting. He said gov would be open to a path forward that is driven by Indigenous nations. The gov is not dictating terms but leaving room for all nations to discuss together.

He says that about C-39 too but that is a disaster. There is nothing meaningful about the “consultation” proposed in that bill. I think people have every right to be suspicious of this government’s intentions given its current track record.
