Hard part isn't the edge — a PDF is objects + an xref table. Fill/merge renumbers objects and rewrites byte offsets or the xref breaks. 'Deterministic bytes' only hold if you re-emit the structure. AcroForm coords or flatten-to-overlay? GhostConvert.cc takes the same local-first angle.
