I also have a massive vinyl collection which I DJed with for years. When the time came to play more modern music I didn’t want to shell out for whatever serato nonsense was out there. I used a wonderful piece of software, xwax, along with digital time code records to play my music. Cost 20 bucks.

If you’ve never used MPD you are missing out on pure magic. Like how does this work so perfectly. You mean I can listen to all my music wherever? Output a network stream? Use it with like 50 different clients?!?? Backend/frontend is the most amazing software paradigm ever when you can access both.

But what about my library and playlists? Bash script to convert my MPD-organized files into “crates” of records and rsync to copy everything to an extra HDD I used on my Gentoo Linux air gapped never-updated (the way I like it) amazingly low tech laptop. I played weddings with this setup!

Because it’s never updated, I can turn the laptop on and it still works. Still have my coffins set up and my ridiculous bash script from 15 years ago still copies my MPD library over so I can spin it. Shit is amazing.
