Random thought, spurred by something I saw earlier. Y'know how 40s-50s-60s comics were huge on exposition? Characters would describe everything they're doing, explain every action. Does anyone know if this has been linked to radio show dialogue? I mean, this was how superheroes talked then, right?

I mean, if you were writing a comic about Superman or the Shadow, well, you'd want the character to talk like Superman or the Shadow, right? And how do they talk? Well, tune in and listen--they use a lot of exposition, describe all the things they're doing and seeing... Again, just a random thought

I think you're onto something there, especially considering how foundational radio was to a character like Superman and thus how foundational it is to what we know about superheroes in general.

I mean, would it be that shocking if a generation raised on radio show superheroes wrote superheroes who talked like they were on radio shows? And then little by little, decade by decade, the writers sort of wean themselves off of it.
