I end all of my newsletter intros with "hit reply - I read every email". And I actually mean it! This week, Stephan emailed me, looking for the print detail of Jace's physical copy of The Swift Programming Language book I mentioned in issue 94 (peterfriese.dev/newsletter/...).

peterfriese.devNot only Swift - Issue #94Someone printed a physical copy of the Swift Programming Language book, and it looks fantastic! Plus: Explore the rise of agentic coding with Pi and OpenClaw, and dive into Swift-based vector databases for on-device RAG.

This conversation led to two great things 👇 1) Stephan shared a glimpse of a 300 page book on Swift generative art he's printing for his vacation (mind-blowing work).

2) I freshly generated a new PDF for Swift 6.4 (and fixed some issues with the rendering along the way)

Tiny feedback: the rendering seems to be indenting where none is needed. See page 8 at the end of section 2. The last paragraph on page 7 overflows to page 8 where it is mysteriously indented.

Do you mean the wide margin? That's actually on purpose - the book uses Tufte-style wide margins. See page 10 for an example how this is used.

Yes. The wide margin looked odd because there was nothing in it. I see where we have experiments etc in the margin, that the margin has utility. On page 8 though, it would feel more natural (at least to me) if the margin continued as on page 7. If it’s working as desired however, that’s great 😀

A month ago, @peterfriese.dev turned the @swift.org language into a typeset PDF. Today I turned it into a physical print textbook. This was such a fun project! Words cannot describe how immensely grateful I am this reference now exists in my hands. Learning is now more accessible to me. Thank you!!
