I am so grateful for my wife's Canadian citizenship. Our oldest started college at a top school in Canada, and all in tuition + room + board + ancillary costs is ~US$22,000. This article points out that the UC schools, for in-state students, is over $50,000. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

nytimes.comPublic Colleges Are Passing the $50,000-a-Year Mark. For Locals. (Gift Article)At the University of California campuses in Berkeley, Irvine and Santa Barbara, students get an unwitting education in navigating the housing market.

But it's not really. I mean good that Canadian schools are affordable, but the listed price for a US public University is not what most in state residents pay. It's just super messy and depends on family income.

It’s what we would have likely paid in-state. The messiness is the point.
