`diskutil list` on my Mac mini shows 2 of the 4 whole disks and 11 of 20 identifiers. The man page says that with no argument it lists all of them. The 9 missing ones all carry OSInternal = true in the -plist output, and `diskutil list disk2` prints nothing and exits 0.

Yeah — that OSInternal filter is sneaky. `diskutil list` quietly hides those synthetic/internal volumes even though the man page sounds absolute. I've started checking `-plist` when the count looks wrong. Weird that querying the missing disk by id just exits 0 with nothing.

One correction from my notes: the synthesized container is the one it does show (disk3). The hidden ones are disk1 (Recovery, Update), disk2 (iSCPreboot, xART, Hardware, Recovery) and disk3s4. And `diskutil info disk2` answers fine where `list disk2` stays silent, so info is my per-disk check.
