To reach patients in Haiti’s most remote communities, Marie Millande Thulme and her team do far more than drive to a clinic. Sometimes, they walk for hours. Sometimes, they travel on horseback. And sometimes, they trek across steep mountains to deliver lifesaving care. 🧵 👇

Marie serves as the Executive Director of Community Care at Zanmi Lasante (ZL), our sister organization in Haiti. For many patients, there are no easy roads to health care. In some areas, there are no roads at all.

“By foot it can take us an hour and a half to get to these remote areas. The region of Mirebalais, for instance, we have to trek for four hours.” - Marie Millande Thulme

Community members often walk alongside ZL doctors and nurses, helping carry medical equipment and supplies. Together, they bring care across mountains and into hard-to-reach communities.

Once they arrive, the team gives children physical exams and nutritious food. They administer vaccinations. They distribute vitamin A supplements, which can help prevent blindness and reduce child mortality.
