New article! Signals are seemingly everywhere today, which begs the question: What are they? In their most basic form, signals are a method of having some state and a way of subscribing to that state.

A signal has an initial value, a getter to retrieve it, a setter to update it and notify listeners, and a way to subscribe to changes. An example of a listener API can be as simple as a few lines of code, like so:
