M’qwirl (meh-kwirr-ul) are unique in that they are not individual organisms—each is a symbiotic pairing of an avian and simian species. One half of a m’qwirl is a raptor-like bird (known as a m’ka), often ridden by the other half (known as a qwirl), which is akin to a spider monkey.

Each m’qwirl pairing shares a telepathic link that unifies their mind-states, enabling them to act in unison, as one. These duos are established at a young age and typically last a lifetime. In social situations (and for rules purposes), they are treated as a single entity.

Halves are often the same gender, but not always. M’qwirl take on other m’qwirl pairs as duo partners; partnering with halves of different m’qwirls is uncommon.

Though a m’qwirl’s halves may separate, it is difficult for them to be apart for long; sustained separation leads to severely impaired functioning and even madness.
