It shouldn’t be shocking that a for profit system prioritizes profit over patient care. But it always is when we stop to thoughtfully consider the impact on people’s lives. The lack of regulation and government oversight of private insurers will generate more such examples. Vote accordingly.

Thanks for this. I'm going to start referring to it as "Health Insurance Lottery Coverage." If enough people start rebranding / referring to it as this, it will help prevent suppression of the issue.

My daughter is in inpatient mental health treatment right now, and the insurance company doctor has (thankfully) approved her to continue for a little while longer. But they've already denied the "stepdown" treatment that the facility recommended. I just want what's best for my child, but they don't

This is super common. I see this a lot with diabetics. Clearly it’s working, which is why you’re “better”. But since you’re “better” you don’t need these things anymore, right?

Basically. Except, in this case you also live in Seattle, where it rains near constantly. So just because it’s not raining, doesn’t mean it isn’t a chronic condition.

Managed care is evil. I spent years working in healthcare accounting. The whole thing with getting approval from a disembodied voice on the other end of the line from someone who had never met the patient was cruel.

Every time a treatment remotely helps me in my battle against multiple schlerosis, it will only be approved for like 3 visits. Does not help maintain or make life easier. Actually makes it So much harder by pulling support systems or making them unobtainable.

I have more PTSD from being diagnosed to die about 9 times - then just sent home to die that I won't go to the doctor alone now. Or at all really. Trust has been lost after losing a year to bad injected medicine and 4 decades to even worse medical diagnoses that blamed "female hormones "

The doctors let themselves be owned by people with money, which means a large percentage of doctors - should not be doctors. A lot paid for the title and didn't do the work that most Doctors have to do. Healthcare here is no longer safe.

How many should the doctor do that for? What percentage of your weekly work load are you willing to do for free? What percentage of this doctors personal "X many pro bono cases" slots were already filled? What lesson would insurance companies glean this personal sacrifice? What would they do next?

Seriously? Would you make this same argument for any other type of professional like an accountant? Mental health treatment almost always includes drugs, often expensive ones. Who would pay for that? And if the doctor had a half a dozen patients who were cut off from insurance? Pro bono for all?

What Americans call health insurance isn’t insurance at all. It’s a fee collecting business. To maximize its profits, it would collect fees but provide no service at all ever.

"Pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies will not cure cancer or any other major disease... It might save a life, but it will cost them billions in lost profit." The creator of insulin gave / gifted his craft to humankind FOR FREE. Here in America, citizens still DIE because of cost.

This also happened with school resources for my ASD child in CA. Once he started to improve, they said he no longer qualified for the help. Which is why he was improving. The bureaucracy is what we need to fight and kill. Corrupt leaders hide in the red tape, and regular people are not served.
