Rhinos, Radioisotopes, and Radiation Protection. Join us Sept. 16, 2025, 12:00 - 1:20 PM EDT to hear Prof. James Larkin explain the groundbreaking Rhisotope Project. Register here: events.teams.microsoft.com/event/34648d... #rhino #conservation #radiationprotection #wits

This initiative introduces trace, non-harmful amounts of radioisotopes into rhino horns to make them detectable by routine radiation monitors at borders and ports to deter trafficking. Following multi-year safety and feasibility studies, the project went live this year.

James is an Adjunct Professor and the Director of the Radiation and Health Physics Unit (RHPU) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the lead institution for The Rhisotope Project.

In his webinar presentation, he will explain how the current situation for rhinos led to this project, how it works, radiation protection considerations for this work, and how to support the project.
