Our games industry is people. Our studios are people. Our teams people, our games by people for people. Our games are made by people, in groups of people, in teams of people, making people things for people. The magic is people, and the people deserve so much better than all this. I am so sorry.

The ever-widening gap between what the industry could be - oh, the places we could go! - and what the industry is is a ravenous maw that consumes people and casts up their work for scavenger-shareholders to pick through the leavings, with spreadsheets discarded like bones around them.

I took a few education management subjects way back and a prof said "this biz is different to many others. at the end of the day, all the REAL machinery of production, all the REAL industrial capital walks outta the building" and yeah games is the same unless (despite what many CEOs wish was true)

You're missing the point- a lot of other businesses have buildings full of equipment and raw materials that could be sold or just reactivated. But a school without teachers or a law firm without attorneys is just a bunch of rooms.

Reactivated by whom? What are any of those business and equipment/machinery creating without human labour? I think you’re missing the point: workers produce all economic value; human labor is the root source of any profit. Anything without workers is just empty buildings and unused equipment.

Everyone working on games should get some humanities education, specially sociology and such. You're making a game along with a bunch of people, for even more people? And you never learned anything about people? Ridiculous

I wish humanities education in America didn't come attached to a system for inflicting life-long debt. Really appreciate the various doctorates putting out free info online, even if I know most of them are only there because real teaching jobs are so under employed.

I refuse to touch another AAA game until the industry corrects itself. Until people are seen as people again I'll make myself comfortable in the indie scene. Fuck Bungie for doing this and fuck anyone who will still support this type of behavior.

The C-Suite and investors "People are the enemy." The thing is, there's a massive decades long backlog of existing games. You dont even have to touch the AAAs.

I am aware of who is the problem. Executives are the most useless type of employee, investors just need to keep their mouth shut and stop trying to interfere as well. Clout chasing isn't a good reason to ruin a game with shitty ideas. The core problem is capitalism but that's not going away.

We have arranged our society and put all made up concepts in the center: Companies, shareholders, money, cars, organisations, rules and regulations. Those are all made up. We can change and shape our society around what really matters : people. We must make sure people thrive.

Caps are good. Also, this shit was a lot better when short term capital gains had high tax rates. It made ppl actually care somewhat about *investment* vs making a quick buck. I’m for stock market abolition, but until then, there are things we can do.

For starters, the whole hamster mentality has to stop. Unchecked infinite growth has a name: cancer. And it's exactly what happens to once good companies - hamster wheel demands, customers will pay more for less. A company cannot be held liable if they didn't grow. Make it okay not to grow...

There's nothing really wrong with being concerned with profit, the issue is needing to keep growing forever, that it's effectively not permitted to just do one thing well and make money on it. If you become publicly traded, you are now a valuation company, not a products company.

yup the system of incentives will drive any person with the best of intentions to make the same decisions it doesn't matter if you replace every leader with really cool people; the incentive system remains the same and demands the same
