Remember: Wealth cannot be separated from power. We're seeing in real time how the extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics, rigging markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of people. Taxing the rich isn't just an economic issue, it's a defense of our democracy.

The key is not to merely take back the vast wealth and power that's already been accumulated and hoarded by the few through taxing them. It's to enact, codify, and enforce rules to prevent vast amounts of wealth and power from becoming concentrated in the hands of a few ever again.

We need to tax a lot more than billionaires. Millionaires too. The fucking people who buy up houses and turn them into AirBnbs - upper middle class people. Tax all these motherfuckers into humility. And leave no place they can hide money or get huge tax returns.

The problem is mostly loopholes. The very rich theoretically pay 37% to Uncle Sam (that's the current top individual tax bracket, where most of their income is). All tax "advantages" should be required to be re-argued every five years. Again, the rates are not the main problem.

Decades of American billionaires attacking democracy gave US foreign adversaries not only a foot in the door to pile onto the attack, but to position themselves to effectively call almost all the shots on federal government operations.

The actor Reagon fooled many a fool to believe in fairy tales. His showmanship presidency was planned by the rich to undo FDR's New Deal, a plan that saved democracy. Now we repeat history. We have an opportunity to do more this time for We the People. Note: It never trickled down & never will.

Democracy cannot survive with the existence of billionaires. A billion dollars is too much power for one person to have, especially an unelected person unaccountable to anyone. Their wealth has to be confiscated for the sake of democracy.

I hope my fellow voters really study these propositions and realize they are not as the anti-40 and pro-42 ads depict. "Ordinary" folks looking into the camera and saying that voting for P40 will raise every one's taxes. Or the ads saying that P42 is just to protect retirement assets from taxes. /1

Absolutely. Our problems can all be traced back to this unconscionable wealth disparity. The country started swirling down the drain when Reagan came in the scene. Time to stop republicans rot & corruption for good!

There might once have been a time when wealth and power were not so connected, but that would have been eons ago. Not in a modern specialized interconnected economy/society. Now, wealth can always be traded for power, and vice versa, ad infinitum (or nearly so).

Also, wealth tends to start the cycle. The people who already have wealth might hoard most of it, but they share more than the people who already have power do. Therefore, stamping out wealth inequality is the more effective route to equality in both (but that's a fun discussion to have).

Democrat Politicians, (todays DEM) promise everything and deliver nothing. Did me 5 things Biden did to make life better. You cannot. The Gov't used to break up big companies, to stop monopolies, but DEMS will not touch it now, because they get the kickbacks from BiG Business.

Shouldn't ... 100% d'accord But ... Can't ? America proves since decades exactly this .. As long as there is no spending gap in the elections (enforced, not without any consequences), this long you're breeding exactly this unqualified rich representatives . It starts with the basics.

pundits are spouting nonsense like “wealth isn’t as powerful as the electorate”. When the electorate is the victim of disinformation bought by the wealthy, the entire “power to the people” scenario is unworkable. The longer we allow $ in politics, the further we get from the ability to correct it.

Yes, “extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics.” But if you follow history, including & especially the actual words of the founders, “extreme concentration of wealth” occurred BECAUSE of concentration of power in politics. Which began c1832 when we allowed parties INSIDE our govt.

I'd be concerned if Republican/Libertarians lose power!! They will stop their false prop up of the Stock Market and drag us into a Recession/Depression and blame it on Democrats.

If wealth can be married to power then it can be divorced from power. We can start by rolling back the Citizens United precedent with laws that recognize corporations are not, in fact, people, but merely noisy machines that exploit people.

Illicit Musk is on the top of the list. The guy needs to be prosecuted for all of his crimes related to his work with DOGE. If the prosecutions rise to the level of removing his citizenship, then he should be deported back to South Africa.
