Nom-EU immigration in Brussels is awful! My 3 hour wait is apparently now typical in the morning rush. I could have saved an hour (and at least 2 productive hours) by flying to Amsterdam instead and taking the train!

You're making me feel better about my "train back to the UK, then fly" plan. Sorry to hear so bad, but good warning for next trip(s)?

Thanks. To be clear, the three hour wait was inbound. Outbound was "just" 30 min. I still don't understand why a human needs to grant me permission to exit the EU.

When I left berlin, I had to wait well over an hour in immigration. They had just 1 security person on at the time. It was ridiculous

Having a departure checkpoint does make international-to-international connections easier, though maybe it doesn't need to be more than an impossible-to-miss sign saying "now leaving ___, you need your passport to get back in".
