Since 1924. An added incentive for people to perform their democratic duty are "democracy sausages", grilled on barbeques near polling booths. These snacks have become icons of Australian elections, often making them the largest fundraising events of the year for local schools and community groups.

But given most democracies do not currently have mandatory voting, it is important to vote, knowing full well that the extremist will always vote.

Dropped my straight blue ballot at the box on Sunday. Checked the status on Wednesday and it was accepted and being tabulated.

Democracy doesn't prevent violence; the whole system is corrupt. But the point of backing Democrats is that anything beats Trump, his government and his party even a used toilet tissue from someone who ate KFC could run the country better. #USPolitics #Democracy

For a long time I have liked Australia's mandatory voting. I like the idea now more than ever. But until then, the choice to vote should be seen for what it is. "Essential" to survival as you know it.

Vote as soon as you can, if you need help, there are plenty of people to help. Let your friends or representatives know. Just do it as soon as possible. The election end November 3!

Treasonous traitor trump preached lower prices to his crowds of idiots. Gullible isn't a Democrat trait. Republicans are zombie repellent, the lack of brains is just a case to be made on our education system. Or on the underbelly of society still living with racism dreams.

I can say for certain that it is a great feeling to put the ballot into the box, give it a push, and have the flap clank as it closes. Done and done and that means time for a beer.

VOTE EARLY!! Most states and towns have early voting, and it’s great! No lines, no ICE presence, peaceful, friendly and relaxed. It needs to be the norm, which makes Election Day the last chance, least desirable option. Help others around you vote early and vote D - for democracy and decency!

I voted last week, as did my younger brother, his wife, mother-in-law and my son-in-law’s mom and aunt. My daughter and son-in-law are voting by early next week using drop box at county registrar’s office.
