Honestly I think I could probably daily drive GIMP over Photoshop for a lot of my graphics work if I could resize a text layer without it rasterizing the text. So, smart objects. That would solve most of my complaints. #foss #gimp #indiedev

I'm on Linux so Affinity isn't an option for me, but I also just don't trust Canva any more than I trust Adobe. Canva could choose to remotely shut down Affinity Studio at any time and then you wouldn't be able to open any of your files.

Yeah, I save things as PSDs as often as I can. I don't trust Canva particularly either, but I think I can rationalize why they want to acquire more professional tools. I have the V2 apps that I paid for and use them all the time still. I'd be curious to pick your brain about better Linux options

For your illustration work, Krita is a fantastic drawing/painting software. Personally I use HEAVYPAINT for 2D painting which is browser based so works on any operating system.

Overall Linux is great for creative work! Blender and Godot both run beautifully (better?) on Linux. Davinci Resolve and Houdini both officially support Linux, though Resolve needs a tiny bit of work to get running on the distro I'm on. I use 3DCoat instead of Substance Painter and REAPER for sound.

Krita is a fantastic painting/drawing program but its really not built for proper graphics work. I find working with text in Krita pretty clunky, but you're right it can resize! What is gimp doing?? haha

Could you do your text work in Inkscape and import it as a layer over your Gimp file? I used to work in comics, and I would do my PS for the artwork/ Illustrator for the text, import the .ai file into PS. Similar work flow? .svg --> .psd
