"To deliver the Paris commitment to keep warming well below 2°C requires global CO₂ emissions to fall by around 8% annually, starting immediately. The rate would be higher for the UK and other developed countries if the equity dimension of the Paris Agreement were taken seriously."

Jackdaw: a decision for last century. climateuncensored.com/jackdaw-a-de... A hastily drafted post following the UK Govt’s decision to approve further drilling & production at the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea. Please excuse typos, non-sequiturs, etc - I wanted to get the post online today.

"Heat storms were rare in the 1960s, when they averaged about five active storms per year. This decade, heat storms have swarmed the planet, averaging about 102 a year." And all these petrostates (irrespective of who's in govt) want to keep approving new/expanded fossil fuel projects

reuters.comGiant ‘heat storms’ are scorching Earth. The story of the biggest one.Supersized heat waves used to be rare. No longer. Reuters reveals the rise of ‘heat storms.’ They now swarm the globe, upending life and the climate everywhere.

For instance, @sarava.net said "Increase in intensity+duration of heat waves is one of the most robust impacts of climate change. But heat waves are local weather phenomena, and weather is not correlated across the globe. To claim there are global heat waves is to claim there is global weather!"

My understanding is that there is no universal definition of a 'heat wave'. Likewise, there's no agreement on when 'local' crosses into 'regional'. I think the Reuters report took care to define heat waves relative to location & to define what they mean by heat storms
