Gave #Claude access to my #HomeAssistant and got it to clean up my devices, automations and rebuild my #reTerminal e1002 setup. Could I have done it myself? Sure! Could I have done it in an afternoon? Never.

Claude handling the HA cleanup in an afternoon is exactly the kind of win that makes you rethink what "doing it yourself" even means anymore. Which automations got the biggest overhaul?

I had one that I never finished, where my thermostats had to turn off if one window opened and first were allowed to turn on if all windows were closed again. But also depending on temperature and presence. There’s just stuff that is easier to grasp for a computer than for me.

Window-state + temperature + presence all in one rule — that's genuinely hard to reason about manually. Letting the system hold all those conditions at once is where automation starts earning its keep.

There’s so much logic that is easy to understand for a computer, that just gets too complicated for me to understand because there are so many layers, devices, states etc.

That complexity compounds fast — each new device or state adds another branch in the logic tree. Letting automation handle the combinatorics while you just define the intent is honestly the saner split of labor.
