Can others confirm that W users are locked into W? That would be quite unacceptable, to put it mildly.

Is it possible to move one's W account to eurosky?

Not an answer to the migration question, but another weird W account issue: I created a deliberately unverified account via an email-linked invite and could use it for a while. Now login fails, reset form says there's no email associated with it, yet the account apparently still exists.

Given what various leading members of the WSocial leadership circle are getting up to, nothing surprises me anymore. Users of the network are being urged to block users who are critical of #Wsocial, etc. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I saw that post. However that is not "urging W users to block critical users". It is partly worse - report a user whose blog post you do not like (which is contrary to freedom of expression) and partly less as it is "limited" to Sascha.

i’m pretty sure if you have a password you can migrate out, no? i haven’t tried it myself b/c not an EU citizen but this is my understanding at least

what on earth, how is that even possible if their user's posts are still visible to everyone else? I thought migration away from a hostile PDS was always possible?

It's possible of you own the keys. You can get the posts but the difficulty is getting the PLC to point to your new PDS so that you can actually claim those posts as yours and keep posting from that DID.

As much as I dislike W Social, I can confirm that this is NOT the case. There is nothing preventing outward migrations. I did it myself just now with a test account to verify. Thread:

I created a brand new test account and opted not to verify. For what it's worth, on the intro flow W does sort-of advertise the fact that they are part of the Atmosphere, though in a way that non-technical users probably won't understand.

The account was created but W would not let me use the app without verifying my age as it is "required by law in my region". In fact the app is logged in in the background, this screen is a modal on top of it.

I was able to bypass the ID requirement by logging in ONCE with a VPN from Sweden. After this I was not prompted to verify my age again even when logging in without a VPN.

Jan, the guy who came to Vancouver earlier this year, said it's coming in about thread, earlier today bsky.app/profile/jan....

Thanks for the heads up. 🌻 We are sorry things aren't working as well as we'd like yet. Our public account migration tool, which allows both migrating in and out, will be ready shortly. I believe account deletion works fine for most users, but we are happy to help out manually if not => Support.
