Can you dig a little deeper into the manipulative behaviour in even "brand-name" medical journals that's sustaining COVID minimization? Senior medical leaders made some very big mistakes, and now there's a consistent pattern of abuse of authority and the peer review process to cover it up. E.g:

🧵An example of the shenanigans and junk science accepted in medical journals. In September 2023, JAMA Pediatrics published a ludicrously bad paper (quasi-retracted after much effort) claiming long COVID is "strikingly rare" in kids, supposedly vs the WHO definition. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

RFK is terrible, but in a fungible way - there will always be people like that. We need systems that are robust to them. The problem is the systems failure that pushed out science, and turned medical guidance development into a subjective opinion-laundering machine. Now it launders his.

But terrible as he is - and no arguments, the guy is going to kill a lot of people - he's got a lot of catching up to do to beat this one. So if what we're about is saving lives, we need to talk about that too. 🧵:

Happy International Women's Day! A reminder that this specific screwup has now killed ~25 million people. A world that allows an influential, entitled, ignorant man to just shout down a smarter and more knowledgeable woman 👉can literally kill you.👈 www.wired.com/story/the-te...

And that's not an isolated incident - it's *representative* of the behaviour we regularly encounter when trying to correct junk clinical studies. There's often little or no real scientific expertise involved. E.g. AFAICT rev #1 here is arguing you can't assume physics applies in clinical settings!

🧵 extension updating the ongoing comic tragedy of this attempt to impose some degree of scientific rigour on the medical literature. Not only has our request for retraction of this fatally flawed study been rejected, no correction will be printed and they refuse to even print a critique (see link).

I hope everyone reading this also recognizes that Long Covid is still happening. It didn't go away when leadership decided to stop mitigating viral spread and vaccination isn't a safeguard. All we have to help blunt it right now is prevention. And that requires more of us making an effort.

Lots of great info in this piece, but there is a big factual error that you all should correct ASAP. bsky.app/profile/bets...

Toward the top, the story claims that Trump administration cuts to the NIH "disappeared" the RECOVER program. Which is completely false? RECOVER has continued operating, the observational arms are coming up on five years, and TLC is launching new clinical trials. (2/4)

YOU'LL NEVER HAVE TO VOTE AGAIN: Ttrrumpp Supreme Court is ready to weaken Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) — the last provision that challenges racial discrimination in voting. If SCOTUS restricts, as he wants, it reduces, eliminates the minority vote. Discrimination becomes policy.

We need stories about avoiding infection. About stopping spread. About ending the pandemic. Fix COVID = Fix new cases of LC. Survivors need support. But not by then sending them back into danger. The pandemic isn't Long Covid. The pandemic is COVID. #CovidIsNotOver #StopTheSpread

My heart breaks for the children who suffer and their families. This article was almost to painful to read. Since my Long Covid began almost 5 years ago, as much as I hate what it’s done to me, I’m beyond grateful it’s me that it’s happening to and not my children.
