About a decade ago someone told me that all professional music mixing engineers cut below 20hz and i just wanna say a big die in a horrific clown icecream butthole accident.

I learned this as well from a very well known artist. Lived by it and once i took a step out from that rule things started to feel more full. Weird.

When cutting around a frequency, the Q value will be very high and it causes around about a 90 degree phase rotation as well as pre / post ringing artifacts around the frequency you are trying to cut below. Also doing this removes any DC offset which can sound warm if you keep it instead.

I should probably warn though, don't do a ton of DC offset. It can damage speakers. a little bit is fine.

^ this was a bad attempt at a joke im sorry. its the dubstep producers you really gotta worry about

It means all the rumble that would have sounded really nice on a large subwoofer is basically gone if you do that, and you also mess up the signal from over processing it and rotating the phase right next to your bass.
