Biden failed at many things but he made a major break with Clintonite free trade and especially Obama's pint-sized stimulus policy and got basically no credit for it. Not Great for the prospects of future full employment

I think a lot of hard left accounts on here don’t fully realize the extent to which the center-left genuinely believes they made a good faith effort to reach out which was met with rejection, betrayal, and libel. You may not think it accurate or fair, but the belief is sincerely held.

The slam is ignorant both politically ( he barely was able to pass it and a failure would have been catastrophic) and economically because critics don’t count e.g the auto rescue and aca as stimulus.

The ARA passed the senate, barely, beating a Republican filibuster. It needed votes from every Democrat, many of whom were quite conservative, 3 Republican defectors, and every independent including Lieberman who was deeply hostile. Obama added $50B+ auto bailout, $30B credit union, and then ACA!

It's easy to complain, but if there was popular support for more, Congressional authors could have added it. And it really pisses me off that "left/liberals" are always "Democrats suck" and never "Great first step, now we need to do this". All they fucking do is whine about Democrats.

Oh come on. I love these oracular pronouncements about how easy it would have been for President Obama to, in the face of a massive right wing attack (tea party?) and media hostility & a crisis causing panic to simply, you know, pass some other stuff relying on people like Ben Nelson and Bayh ...

You do understand that the bill was mostly written by House and Senate Democrats, don't you. Obama had to exert every available effort to pass it - and if it had failed so early in his term in crisis, the results would not have been pretty.
