ICE technology is a dead man walking

Good morning with good news: EVs in UK had best month ever in September & were 45% autos sold! Full-electrics (BEV) surged 36% to a record & were 28% of sales. Plug-in hybrids were 17%. Chinese EVs are available in UK. UK is world's 7th largest auto market. electrek.co/2026/10/02/u... #energysky

I just installed a home charger for a used EV i just switched to. Next up: balcony solar. You converted me into a sicko. But, the panels I'm looking at aren't approved for a battery yet? How did you setup panels with a battery?

ah I see. well you can generally plug any solar panel into any battery power station, so long as it doesn't exceed the voltage limits of the solar charge controller. but that might not be necessary with a balcony solar setup. what state are you in?

basically it's an off grid system. I charge the batteries with the panels and then use the batteries to charge my car, plus I can run up to 5 circuits in my house through a transfer switch

but if you are doing balcony solar and want to add a battery, that wouldn't be strictly necessary. you could just charge it from the wall during the day, or at night if you have varying time of use pricing, etc

Charging from the wall! I'll look at batteries. Is there a good one/few you know of that could, say, handle my home's nighttime base load for a little while?

There are mass market fridge batteries now. You plug the battery into the wall, and the fridge into the battery. Keeps your food from spoiling during a blackout AND you can also set the battery to charge up while your solar is cranking and discharge while the sun is down.

Ecoflow is more pricey but has better app support. as far as size I would go with at least 1 kilowatt-hour, that will run a fridge for a few hours. also you can usually find discount codes on youtube
