Holy shit: Deutsche Bahn has made the insane decision to stop all train traffic between Düsseldorf and Cologne... during the week of Gamescom.

For those who don't know, this is what every tram station, train station, hen house, and out house looks like during the week. It is packed beyond belief. This cannot be safe with replacement busses.

Apparently this should only affect the east side of the rhine, so trains could still go via the west side of the rhine via Neuss, but that would still cut 50% of the routes, making those trains extra packed

More bad news! Trams 1, 7, and 9 will not travel between the east and west side of Cologne. There will be replacement bus services instead. Cologne, in their infinite wisdom, are doing this work between August 14th and September 2nd.

So if you are on the east or southeast of Cologne, you should be able to get to the Messe. If you are on the west side of the river, you have to either take a bus, or the 100% more filled up trains due to the track closures by DB. Truly a completely avoidable combination of closures, and yet.

So you can’t get from Heumarkt to the messe without a bus, but you can still get from Neumarkt to the messe with a tram. Seems you have to go a little further west, to get from west to east
