Hi Eddie (or @film-authority.bsky.social as some people call you), Just reporting back as promised on "Digger", which we saw yesterday in an Imax with only three other people (you're right—much better: hate it when a full house absorbs the sound). And we all went the distance. My wife's verdict:

With David Ellison's Skydance taking control of Warner Bros, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s's Digger may be the last gasp of free speech in cinema. With a stunning Tom Cruise performance, this satirises oil oligarchs and liberal arts in equal measures; a 5/5 masterpiece. film-authority.com/2026/10/03/d...

weird. Mine: sure, but in a great way. Apart from being visually and aurally exciting, I found it riveting, funny-ha-ha (witty), funny-ho-ho (slapstick), constantly surprising (wrong-footing, if your prefer), challenging, moving... and in the end, redemptive. And when I

say in the end, I actually mean *after* the end, literally the soundscape over the credits, reminding us of life after human life. All in all, under the chaos lies a carefully-crafted work of insane genius. (Tom Cruise is not bad, either... still doing all his own stunts, I believe. 😉😂)

They never stand in the right order! Digger also reminded me of Terry Gilliam and Brazil. The comedy wires, the satire had a point, it’s deliberately obtuse, but a cult film of the future for sure!

Great Stuff, Simon! Your wife called it right, it’s a strange film…. But while it’s not for everyone, it’s for someone, and I had a similar reaction to you. It’s huge in scope, original in conception, sometimes deliberately silly and the least typical thing Cruise ever did. I applaud your effort!
