I spent some time this morning playing with their endpoints ... I genuinely believe this is the first time that a google account and facebook account interoperate in an unified account chooser that websites can use to login to their websites.

Facebook just recently exposed themselves as a FedCM IdP!! developers.facebook.com/documentatio... I think this is pretty awesome, including to the atproto ecosystem, because it one more step towards making IdPs interoperate with one another!

await navigator.credentials.get({ identity: { providers: [{ configURL: "https://www.facebook.com/fed_cm/config.json", clientId: "1" }, { configURL: "https://accounts.google.com/gsi/fedcm.json", clientId: "2" }] }})

This is the code snippet in case you want to give this a try too in your devtool console. I expect websites to pick this up soon too, since google accounts already accounts for more than 3% of chrome's page loads across hundreds of thousands of websites.

If they do, intrusion will obviously be an expected unintended consequence, which we are actively working on with better UX affordances: bsky.app/profile/sgo.... Hard problem, but this is something we all feel strongly about and are giving our best shot at addressing.

I'm putting together a chrome://flag in canaries that enables the FedCM's Ambient UX in the URL bar. I've been using it for a week or so: it is beautiful and I think it will have arrive at an economic equilibrium. Here is the before / after, how to enable it and why we are working on it:

Obviously, for the atproto community, this is still insufficient, because hard coding IdPs is a non-starter. We need something like this: atproto.com/blog/working... But, I do believe that this is a meaningful step towards that direction, because two major account systems have unified into one ...
