i give creatives a lot of rope when discussing AI, because their oxen have been gored the worst, especially in advertising. and it's not like uninformed opposition is always bad for mass politics. this is america, 80% of all opinions are uninformed. BUT!

there is a vast middle ground that will need hefty guardrails built in the next few years, and if you are still toting around letter-counting screenshots from 2023, or constantly predicting incipient bankruptcy, you are very much doing the opposite of activism in this regard

i've used the chinese models, but i don't know much about what their companies' domestic rules are (beyond the obvious "don't cross glorious leader" but that part we've already adopted too)

You can still get Google's default search AI to badly flub simple questions like this now, it's strange because even the lowest setting of Gemini doesn't, so they seem to be making themselves look bad for no real reason ( I guess maybe google search is used so much that this saves useful $s ?)

definitely, the newer models are expensive so i bet its some some ultra-stripped down gemini 2 flash, and this is why people who respond to cybersecurity stories about mythos/astra with "lol google dumb" screenshots are talking way past each other at this point
