Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

This platform is full of authors and artists who don't like having their work stolen.

I think that may be the core division here: if you are an author or an artist the cons of generative AI very likely outweigh the pros for you If you are a software developer the opposite is true

Ah, well that sounds pretty balanced. Tell me, are there any broader societal impacts of widespread AI that might help us settle this? Are there any potential risks? How about environmental concerns? Let’s sort this out together, shall we?

Here's my collection of writing on that simonwillison.net/tags/ai-ethi...

Zero results for search term self harm Zero results for suicide Zero results for porn ONE result climate change, and it just mindlessly parrots tech bro propaganda about per-search consumption instead of using data center projections by actual energy experts. Your collection speaks volumes

You literally said nothing about the AI revenge porn/ chlld access problem. Just threw up your hands and said it’s not solvable. I have a simple solution. Would you like to hear it?

Sure, go for it

1. Make the tech the industry pay for every penny- increased bills for consumers due to demand pressure, increased costs for building out generation snd transmission capacity, account for evert extra molecule of extra CO2 emissions. 2. Make it clear that there will be no government bailout.
