yeah like i was meeming last night but "turbo-corrupt guy in his 80s that cost control of parliament to the bolsonarists and only won the presidency 52-48" is not a recipe for long-term electoral good happen or short-term good governance

It was incredibly irresponsible of Lula to run yet again. Now he's been reelected we can post things like this. Lucky that the Right candidate was so godawful.

Brasil's real problem is that there is no politicial to the left of Fascism that is popular and charismatic enough to rally the democratic forces other than the 80 year old Lula.

at the end of the day, it bought invaluable time on a lot of different fronts to carry on the fight; it's an open question how that fight goes but it's an unexpected victory that opens up breathing room even it's far from a decisive battle. From here it's gotta be pedal to the metal.

By Brasilian standards Lula is not "turbo-corrupt" ... he is Lincoln style corrupt. His biggest sin is prioritizing getting his agenda through a turbo-corrupt political system and doing nothing to clean up the corruption.

All of the corruption actually connected to him was to get legislation passed through congress - and with the congress that just got elected... he is going to need a lot of corruption
