The state of Utah just banned seven more books from all schools statewide, bringing the total number of banned titles to 44. We thought we’d take a minute to tell you about the seven new additions. 🧵

“House of Earth and Blood” is the first book in Sarah J. Maas’ bestselling fantasy series “Crescent City.” The book marks the seventh title of Maas’ to land on Utah’s removal list, making her the most banned author in the state.

“Identical”, also by Ellen Hopkins, follows 16-year-old identical twins Kaeleigh and Raeanne Gardella. Their father is an alcoholic who has subjected Kaeleigh to sexual abuse since she was 9. Raeanne feels invisible and turns to alcohol, drugs and promiscuity to cope.

“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” by Jesse Andrews follows awkward high school senior Greg Gaines. His strategy of trying to stay invisible ends when his mother forces him to rekindle his childhood friendship with Rachel Kushner, who has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Kerri Maniscalco’s “Kingdom of the Cursed” follows 18-year-old Emilia, who sold her soul to become Queen of the Wicked. She travels to the Seven Circles with the Prince of Wrath, vowing to avenge her sister — even if she must marry the Prince of Pride, king of demons.
